The various sodium salts are produced by either partially or completely neutralizing citric acid with sodium hydroxide or carbonate.



Citrates are found widely in nature.



It can cause muscle twitches, cramps and mood swings in some people but is generally regarded as safe.



Sodium citrates are used as acidity regulators in food and drinks, and also as emulsifiers for oils.


Used in

Soft drinks, desserts, confectionery, baked goods, preserves and jams.


Global usage

Allowed to use in Europe and the US.
